Surah Al Ghashiyah

Translations

88:1 (Y. Ali) Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)?

88:1 (Picktall) Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming?


Surah Al Ghashiyah

Translations

88:2 (Y. Ali) Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated,

88:2 (Picktall) On that day (many) faces will be downcast,

88:3 (Y. Ali) Labouring (hard), weary,-

88:3 (Picktall) Toiling, weary,


Surah Al Ghashiyah

88:4 (Y. Ali) The while they enter the Blazing Fire,-

88:4 (Picktall) Scorched by burning fire,

88:5 (Y. Ali) The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring,

88:5 (Picktall) Drinking from a boiling spring,

88:6 (Y. Ali) No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari'

88:6 (Picktall) No food for them save bitter thorn fruit

88:7 (Y. Ali) Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger.

88:7 (Picktall) Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger.

88:8 (Y. Ali) (Other) faces that Day will be joyful,

88:8 (Picktall) In that day other faces will be calm,

88:13 (Y. Ali) Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high,

88:14 (Picktall) And goblets set at hand

88:16 (Y. Ali) And rich carpets (all) spread out.

88:20 (Y. Ali) And at the Earth, how it is spread out?

88:21 (Y. Ali) Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish.

88:21 (Picktall) Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer,

88:22 (Y. Ali) Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs.

88:22 (Picktall) Thou art not at all a warder over them.

88:23 (Y. Ali) But if any turn away and reject Allah,-

88:23 (Picktall) But whoso is averse and disbelieveth,

88:24 (Y. Ali) Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment,

88:24 (Picktall) Allah will punish him with direst punishment.


Surah Al Ghashiyah

88:25 (Y. Ali) For to Us will be their return;

88:25 (Picktall) Lo! unto Us is their return

88:26 (Y. Ali) Then it will be for Us to call them to account.
