In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
96:1 (Y. Ali) Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created-
96:1 (Picktall) Read: In the name of thy Lord who createth,
96:2 (Y. Ali) Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood:
96:2 (Picktall) Createth man from a clot.
96:3 (Y. Ali) Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,-
96:3 (Picktall) Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous,
96:4 (Y. Ali) He Who taught (the use of) the pen,-
96:4 (Picktall) Who teacheth by the pen,
96:5 (Y. Ali) Taught man that which he knew not.
96:5 (Picktall) Teacheth man that which be knew not.
96:6 (Y. Ali) Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds,
96:6 (Picktall) Nay, but verily man is rebellious
96:7 (Y. Ali) In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient.
96:7 (Picktall) That he thinketh himself independent!
96:8 (Y. Ali) Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all).
96:8 (Picktall) Lo! unto thy Lord is the return.
96:9 (Y. Ali) Seest thou one who forbids-
96:9 (Picktall) Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth
96:10 (Y. Ali) A votary when he (turns) to pray?
96:10 (Picktall) A slave when he prayeth?
96:11 (Y. Ali) Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?-
96:11 (Picktall) Hast thou seen if he (relieth) on the guidance (of Allah)
96:12 (Y. Ali) Or enjoins Righteousness?
96:12 (Picktall) Or enjoineth piety?
96:13 (Y. Ali) Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away?
96:13 (Picktall) Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward?
96:14 (Y. Ali) Knoweth he not that Allah doth see?
96:14 (Picktall) Is he then unaware that Allah seeth?
96:15 (Y. Ali) Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,-
96:15 (Picktall) Nay, but if he cease not, We will seize him by the forelock--
96:16 (Y. Ali) A lying, sinful forelock!
96:16 (Picktall) The lying, sinful forelock--
96:17 (Y. Ali) Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades):
96:17 (Picktall) Then let him call upon his henchmen!
96:18 (Y. Ali) We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)!
96:18 (Picktall) We will call the guards of hell.
96:19 (Y. Ali) Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah.!
96:19 (Picktall) Nay! Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah).
